Although I am a proficient computer user, I am not much of an expert in networking. In the past, I have had several routers (Cisco, Linksys, etc.) that required way too much troubleshooting for my level of expertise. So far, this router has been extremely simple to use and hasn't dropped my connection at all. Given the track record we have had with other routers in my home, that alone is a huge improvement. I also tested out the "Self-Healing" app that does diagnostics on the network, to see what it was like, and it seemed to be effective and intuitive (although since I haven't had any real trouble yet, I don't know how it would perform under pressure). The dual-band is, as other reviewers have stated, an advantage for a home like ours that has a wide variety of wireless devices throughout the house. I was overwhelmed by all the technical details of routers and was getting nowhere reading the endless reviews of the different brands & models both on amazon and other sites. I wanted to get a good value on a router but I also didn't want to end up with a piece of crap. This router had way fewer ratings & reviews than others I had browsed through, but what caught my eye was how easy other users claimed it was. Even though I was a bit skeptical, I just went ahead and bought it. Connecting it and setting up a wireless network was a breeze. In the box, there was the router, an ethernet cable, a setup disk, and a paper tag with the name and password for a network. I took it out of the box,plugged the ethernet cable into the router, connected my desktop to the router, and plugged the cable from the router into the internet modem. I had been wanting to set up a wireless network in the house for a long time but felt intimdated because of some of the reviews that I read on Amazon about setting up networks. A lot of technical jargon by the tech savy. I finally came upon this Bilkin router and read the reviews. It seemed easy to set up, so I took the plung and ordered. A tech dummy like me had everything up and running in a matter of minutes. It was super easy to install and set up. Follow the easy to read and understand instructions and you're up and running promptly.

The Bilkin actually improved the internet performance of my computer. My computer is located in a room that has no phone jack for my DSL connection. I had a 30 foot cable with a connector splicing two sections together running to the hall from the room with the phone jack to the computer. Down loads were slow.
