I have had the MBR 1400 for several months now. It has it's good points and it's bad points. Lets start with the bad:

Cons:
*Wireless is brutal. Side by side with a Cisco E3000 I was consistantly getting 1/2 the speed from the MBR as I was the Cisco. I even went to 15 db antennas but no matter what I tried, I could not get wireless speeds I was accostomed to. I finally decided to shut the MBR1400 wireless off and use a separte AP.
*Firmware is buggy. First two versions woudl not work with my secondary Comcast connection. Several calls to tech support yeilded no answers. I finally put another reouter behind the MBR to connect to the Comcast connection, this seemed to work.
*Tech support is highly lacking. My first MBR1400 needed to be excahnged due to constant rebooting. The hoops I had to jump through to get this replaced was BRUTAL.
*Initial 2 Firmware versions did not provide correct support for the PanTech LTE modem even though the documentation said...Read more

I finally seem to have the bugs taken care of; downloaded the latest firmware, and that seems to have stabilized the router's behavior somewhat. Before that, it was behaving badly, losing connections routinely, and the range didn't seem to be as advertised, at least for wireless G. I suppose if my old laptops were N capable, things would be better. At about 300 feet (no obstacles between buildings), it wouldn't hold a connection with the recieving computer until I mounted it in front of an old Direct TV dish aimed precisely at the target building. Even then, the target laptop ocassionally loses the signal.

The main reason I spent the extra money on this supposedly more powerful router (vs. my old MRB1000) was the advertised extended range, and the ability to attach an external cabled antenna. That hasn't helped at all, in fact I think the signal was worse with the external antenna, I suppose due to cable losses, even though the cable I bought seems to be well armoured...Read more
