The dir825 product is very good once up and running, with good speed and coverage and seems pretty solid. It is effectively two wifi devices in one, one on 802.11a/n, one on 802.11b/g/n, so you can get all your laptops which do 11a onto the 5GHz band freeing up 2.4GHz for handheld devices.

It is a little bit complex to configure to get the best out of it, but mainly all you need to do is set the WPA pass phrases on the wifi and the admin password for the router itself.

One downside is that if you want to set static routes, you can only do so for the outbound/WAN interface, and not for the LAN. I encountered this in a small office where there was a VPN appliance on the LAN, and I needed to remotely admin the DIR825. Dlink said that if you want full control of static routes then you should buy the professional/corporate models. Bought this to replace a Belkin wireless router that didn't have enough Ethernet ports. Belkin: EASY to set up, NO PROBLEMS. D-Link DIR-825: a total mess.

Installing this unit requires that you BE a computer geek or you HIRE a computer geek. If you're a Macintosh user--although it theoretically will work with Macs--DO NOT BUY, or run back to the computer store to return it.

Although I would not describe myself as a fully knowledgeable computer installer, I'm a fairly sophisticated user and have been since 1980. Speaking of 1980, the "manual" that comes with this unit would have been considered poor even by 1980 standards.
