Product Review

The D-Link Wireless N 300 Gigabit Router (DIR-651) comes equipped with 4 Gigabit ports to provide speeds up to 10x faster than standard 10/100 ports. It also uses 802.11n technology with multiple intelligent antennas to maximize the speed and range of your wireless signal to significantly outperform 802.11g devices. With the addition of Intelligent Quality of Service (QoS), data streams are separated which helps organize and prioritize your network traffic so your video streaming, gaming, and VoIP calls run smoother over both your wired and wireless network. With some routers, all wired and wireless traffic, including VoIP, Video Streaming, Online Gaming, and Web browsing are mixed together into a single data stream. By handling data this way, applications like video streaming could pause or delay. With the D-Link Intelligent QoS Technology, wired and wireless traffic are analyzed and separated into multiple data streams.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The D-Link DIR 651 Wireless N Router is one of the new releases of consumer routers from D-Link. The only major upgrade on this unit is the gigabit Ethernet port (-vs- high-speed from previous model, the DIR 615). It does NOT have an active USB SharePort(tm) for attaching USB devices (external HD, shared printer, etc).

The router administration for this DIR-651 is almost identical to the DIR-655 (my current wireless router for 2+ years, and currently my yardstick for wireless routers). A few minor changes, but overall the same features, functions, and controls. I configured the device manually (without the disk installer) via web browser, changed the Router IP address, range, and other settings. It took less a bit over 15 minutes to complete the setup from unboxing to having a functional wireless router. Using the disk took a bit longer (a little over 20 minutes), but it got me to nearly the same state as my manual configuration, plus a few minor tweaks on the router...Read more

D-Link Marketing says:
(MANUFACTURER)
Thank you for the feedback. We're glad to hear that after you upgraded the firmware, a majority of the issues had been addressed.
The current available DIR-651 in the market is shipped with this new firmware (Version 1.10) and should address the concerns you mentioned. This would include your connection challenges. We'd urge anyone having this connectivity issue to upgrade the unit's firmware.
We're sorry that you are still experiencing network storage access issues. Can you tell us what you're experiencing? D-Link strives to help customers enjoy their routers, so please let us know.
So you know, the DIR-651 is a step-up to the DIR-615 with Gigabit Ethernet Port support. For intelligent QoS and Shareport USB features, the suggested D-Link routers are the DIR-645, DIR-655 or DIR-657.

Thank you very much,
D-Link.

I reluctantly had to change routers after lightning knocked my netgear router out. At a friends request I switched to D-Link. When I went to get the router I was going to get the DIR-615 but then I saw the DIR-651 with "extended range", one that's BS and two this is the worst router EVER. If I use WPA2 I can't stay connected with IPAD2's nor a macbook air. I switched to WEP and those devices connected fine BUT then I couldn't connect my wireless bridges. So I switched to WPA, now the Macbook Air will connect but nothing else will. What kind of POS is this thing! Avoid the frustration and get ANYTHING else. I'm tossing this one out the window and getting something else. (Already threw out the box. :
