Summary: Excellent customer service, product great 2010-03-07
Comment: Haven't tested the abilities of the 5 GHZ band yet, but the 2.4 is working flawlessly. Also, had a conflict with my ISP's DSL modem IP address, as it was using the same one as the router. Customer service quickly identified this and helped me change it.

Summary: i got a lemon 2010-03-07
Comment: i have a mixed review on this mainly because i think i just got a bad one. the range is great in my opinion and the set up itself is easy for internet use. my main problem is that the main thing that i bought it for didn't work. the shareport was no good. i wanted to use this for a printer but had the hardest time setting this up. after calling technical support and spending about 2 and a half hours on the phone with them they just told me that they believed my router was defected and to send it in do d-link. of course i had to pay to send it in which bugged me a lot since the item was only a month old. other than that it's a great item. i'm thinking not all come in messed up like mine which is why i'm not completely saying i hate it. i hate the one i got but after i get my "good" one, i'm sure i'll love it.

Summary: Useless (Rev. B w/ 2.02 NA Firmware) 2010-03-06
Comment: Intermittent WAN/Internet drops. (across LAN & WiFi) Blocked traffic on some ports out of the box. Couldn't game or watch streaming video with this router. Replaced w/ Trendnet 639GR and all is well. (but not before an ISP service call and a replaced modem)

Never again D-Link.

Summary: Great router with some problems that aren't being addressed. 2010-02-14
Comment: This router gave us the false impression of being great because the signal was so good and we had little problems when we first set it up. Things have gotten progressively worse.

First red flag is that this router is not compatible with XBox 360 wireless and they haven't made any effort or indication of fixing this.

Second red flag is that this router hasn't had a firmware update in 6 months while at the same time lots of issues discussed on their forums.

Third red flag is that someone tested this router and found that their optimizing option does not actually find the best signal, usually picking the worst. Sounds like bad programing.

The nail in the coffin is that, in only a few months, the latency is now starting to jump, download speeds dropping, upload speeds almost stop on a regular basis. Reboot of router made things better for a short period of time. Now it's gotten so bad that I'm getting drops about every 5 minutes. When I plug directly into modem, I get great speeds and no drops for extended periods of time. The router will have good speeds then degrade over a few hours. I've already gone through troubleshooting, changing options, without improvement. D-link does not appear to care about the issues with this router.

From now on, I'm going to research to see if the router is maintained with frequent updates to the firmware before I buy one.

Summary: Additional Information 2010-02-14
Comment: I own the Dir-825, hardware version A. When I got the item with firmware 1.01, connections dropped tremendously. I upgraded to firmware 1.11NA so as to solve the problem but this made it even worse. Connections dropped even more and other persons were complaining since they also shared the internet connection via the router. I always had to keep on physically powering off the router and plugging it back on. It got so bad that I installed an electrical switch on the plug that connected the router to an electrical outlet. So instead of pulling out the router's charger and then plugging it back on so as to reboot the router, I could now switch off the power supply.

However it has been a week thus far and I have not had to reset the router. This is of course a world record for me since I had to reset this router every 2 days or so. I'm not sure if it's a fluke or what but I'll tell you what I did. I first saved the router settings to my hard drive. Then I upgraded the router's firmware to version 1.12NA. Then I upgraded to firmware version to 1.13NA right after.I then reloaded the router's settings that I saved on my hard drive. In the advanced tab of the router's webpage I went into the Qos settings. I unticked "Automatic Upload Speed" and I set the manual uplink speed to 360 kbps. My acutal uplink speed is 256 kbps but I just set the uplink a little higher to see what would be the effect. Thus far there has been no ill effect of doing such. In the end the router has not dropped connections or stopped being accessible via it's webpage.

A great feature about this router is that when wireless clients log onto the router you can actually see who logs on as well as the percentage strength that the wireless device is receiving. Also the router respects the commands that you set in for port forwarding as well as port blocking. Port blocking is very essential for my use as well as the website blocking.
