Summary: Works as advertised 2008-12-02
Comment: I have been using a Linksys WRT150N for a little more than a year. I have been very happy with that router. However, we recently moved from a house to an apartment. In the house, we had no problems with wireless signal strength or interference. In the apartment, there are dozens of wireless networks in close range and this severely effects our signal strength. The quality of the network connection and the distance we can move from the router have been drastically reduced, making using the wireless network hit-or-miss - very frustrating.
The Linksys WRT610N works as advertised. This is actually 2 access points in one - a 5GHz access point and a 2.4 GHz access point. Both access points get their own SSID, wireless frequencies, and security settings. I have an Apple TV and two MacBooks all running on the 5GHz 802.11N network using WPA2. The Tivo, Wii, and 802.11G laptops run on the 2.4 GHz mixed network using WEP. All clients (B, G, and N) are running at much faster speeds. There seems to be much less interference from competing networks - especially for the 5GHz clients. The wired clients are also showing significant speed improvements thanks to the gigabit switch.
Hulu and Netflix "Watch Instantly" were unusable before I started using the WRT610N - now both stream effortlessly. Also, syncing video content to the Apple TV was slow and error-prone - now full length movies (1-2 GBs) sync in a few minutes.
The only downside of this router is the USB storage option. The FTP/SAMBA sharing preferences and the user/group settings are a bit confusing. I can tell all the right options are there, but I haven't gotten this working correctly yet. A first attempt resulted in a formatted disk (even though I didn't choose the disk formatting option). Linksys needs to release a firmware update that makes this USB storage functionality less clunky. Once that happens, this device and a USB hard-drive will allow users a very affordable NAS option.

Summary: WT610N and DMA2200 tricky to setup 2008-11-29
Comment: I had a problem with the first WRT610N that was shipped to me. After many hours on the chat line, and not being able to get the USB attached storage to appear on my network(Vista Home Premium), they sent me another new unit. That one worked extremely well and I've been using it for a week. I've even done a disk image backup of a portable over the `G' network to the USB attached drive. The Linksys support line is 866-509-7452 but I found the chat to be very good. Make sure you have your serial number as they will ask for that.
I primarily bought the unit to use with a Linksys DMA2200 Media Extender. That did not go well either but Linksys was very helpful over the phone and after many setting changes, that unit is also working very well. Settings on the router to make DMA2200 work include:
Basic Wireless - Set to Manual, Disable 5 GHz, Set 2.4 GHz Network Mode to Mixed, Set Radio Band to Wide, Set Wide Channel to 6, set Standard channel to 8
Set Wireless security to WPA2-Personal
Advanced Wireless Settings: (on both channels) Disable Frame Burst, Set Beacon Interval to 50, RTS Threshold to 2304
On the DMA2200, go to setting and reset to factory defaults under General Tab, walk through the setup screens. Then go to your PC and add the media Extender. Then power off the extender, Power off router for 1 minute. The power on router, Reboot PC, power on Extender and everything worked for me.
Once everything is working, you can go back to the router setup and enable the 5Ghz channel which now will work well with the media extender.

Summary: Bad news 2008-11-21
Comment: This thing has version 1.00 firmware in it and it shows. It was slower than my wireless G modem it was to replace. All of our wireless devices took forever to load a web page--both Windows XP and Mac OS X computers. We had great response with the previous LinkSys router that it was to replace. After Googling and looking at the LinkSys web site for answers, I returned it after one day. I am back on my old, reliable router w/o a worry.
Save yourself the money and grief and stay away from this thing.

Comment: This is the worst ever router I have tested. I've had cheaper ones doing a better job. The N connection is a waste of time, effort and health!! It disconnects constantly, it has the worst wireless range, and I can keep saying only bad things about this worthless product! It really desappointed me awfully.
