The Ultimate In Data Protection NETGEAR's FV318 Cable/DSL VPN Firewall Router solidifies office networks with the ultimate in data protection. It lets you initiate five VPN tunnels between authentic remote sites or mobile workforce so your Internet communications are private and your network remains secure. Armed with Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) to promote uninterrupted network operation and Denial of Service (DoS)attack protection, the FV318 also uses remote identity authentication to secure private transmission of data - preventing unauthorized users from accessing private information as it travels through the Internet. Network administrators can establish time-of-day usage limits, content filtering parameters, and limits on access to Web pages, chat and instant messenger services. And the FV318 can be set to log, report, and send real-time e-mail alerts of browsing activities. It notifies you of hacker attempts and tracks their source to deter future attacks. NAT

I use these firewall routers exclusively for small business. I've heard others complain about the VPN capability, but I've never had a problem.
I have them setup on small "mom & pop" shops. They are stable, durable, easily configured, have OK security features and allow VPN remote access.
I've been using the FVS318's since thier introduction, the first ones I installed several years ago - still work great. No unusual packet loss after several years. All ports still work, security, VPN all still working great. Needless to say, when a new customer needed a deployment - I went to Netgear. Netgear has earned my respect. Any savvy tech can configure these in minutes. For the complicated larger customers - I go Cisco. For smaller needs this is a great unit.

P.S. These are also terrific if you want to segment another IP for a small individual network like a surveillance system.
