What a nightmare.,

This review is from: NETGEAR DGN2000 Wireless-N Router with Built-in DSL Modem (Personal Computers)
The DGN2000 replaced my old Linksys router, a Speedstream DSL modem and an older Netgear wireless router. I have 9 devices networked together in my home. 5 computers are wired to the router via gigabit and 10/100 switches. The DGN2000 worked fine for these devices. The modem and wired router worked. The problem was with the wireless functionality. After following the wizard to set up the first wireless device, it worked briefly. However, when I tried connecting a second computer, it would lose the connection. The DN2000 would work briefly, but only if 1 computer was connected. If the computer went to sleep, the connection would be lost upon wake-up. Most of the time it switched from Access Point mode to Ad-Hoc mode and my wireless computers could not connect. I spoke with several Netgear tech support agents and they had me try different channels and security settings. The Netgear agent told me to contact my vendor and ask for a replacement. First, I checked Amazon.com's return...Read more

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

DISCLAIMER: I only use the wireless function of this device; please see other reviews noting issues with the ethernet ports
I purchased this to replace the "free" Motorola dsl modem I received from AT&T which kept losing connection. AT&T replaced the first one within a few months, then the replacement started dropping connection within a few months as well. This Netgear router-modem replaced both the cheap AT&T modem and my D-link 4500 router. The results are better than expected. No disconnections yet, and it has a decent user interface (isn't quite as nice as the one I had with the D-link, but it is sufficient).
This is set up at one end of my house with a direct connection to my TV, Xbox, and AV receiver. I then use wireless for PS3 and my iMac. My iMac is located in my office at the opposite end of my house, maybe 50 ft. away, yet my internet speed is still just as fast as ever before. In addition to having great internet speed, my iMac also...Read more

Overheating problems after 6 months - do not purchase!,
September 30, 2009 D. Darby "Unbiased IT Professional" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: NETGEAR DGN2000 Wireless-N Router with Built-in DSL Modem (Personal Computers)
This product worked great for the first 6 - 7 months. However, it always ran really hot (visibly noticeable after 6 months due to a white sticker on the top of the unit turning brown around its edges) and eventually burned up the components.
The first indication of the unit going bad was the wireless connection slowed from 6.1 mb/sec download to 101 kb/sec download speeds (it was not a problem with the ISP, lack of obtaining an IP Address, or any setup/connectivity issues). After a couple of days one of the router ports did the same thing (slowed to identical speeds mentioned above for the wireless access point). I now have a modem with a defective wireless access point, 1 of 4 router ports that have gone bad, and I am waiting for more problems to start occurring.
To top it off, I had to call their "support" 6 times after being "dropped" and hung up on (before even talking to that person mind you - I was even tempered and did not cause the hang up). I also...Read more
