Amazon.com Product Description
The NETGEAR WGR614 54 Mbps 802.11g Wireless Router offers:
  • 802.11g wireless network router for home and office.
  • Four RJ-45 Ethernet ports for wired networking.
  • Configurable network security including double firewall for extra protection.
The NETGEAR WGR614 54 Mbps 802.11g Wireless Router lets you easily set up a wireless network in your home so you can share a single internet connection with everyone in your household or office at speeds up to 54 Mbps.

The WGR614 offers speeds up to 54 Mbps with the 802.11g wireless standard. View larger.
Beautiful Design and Easy Setup
The WGR614 is a very attractive unit about the size of a small paperback with a silver exterior and rounded edges. An included plastic stand lets you stand the router on its edge to take up less space.

The WGR614 makes it easy for even a novice to set up a wireless network: just plug the included Ethernet cable from your internet connection into the router and insert the included CD into any computer on the network, which will provide step-by-step instructions. The WGR614 employs a web-based interface for configuration, and the router will automatically do the initial setup by getting your DNS settings and determining your IP address. The firmware is also upgradeable via the web interface so you can be sure your router will always be up-to-date.

Fast and Secure
Supporting the 802.11g standard, the NETGEAR WGR614 offers wireless data speeds of up to 54 Mbps, making it possible to share a broadband internet connection, stream music without hiccups, watch videos with less load time, and videoconference without problems. Downloading files is up to five times faster than it was with 802.11b. If you still have computers that use 802.11b, don't fret as the router is backwards compatible with the older wireless standard and can be set so all your computers can connect to the network and the WGR614 will automatically figure out the connection type and work accordingly.

In addition to wireless access, there are four 10/100 Mbps RJ-45 Ethernet ports in the back for connecting computers to the network via a faster, wired connection.

The WGR614 offers many security options to ensure your data is private. Double firewall protection keeps your network shielded from outside attacks. To ensure the security of your wireless data, both 40/64-bit, 128-bit, and 152-bit (802.11g only) WEP encryption is available, as well as WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access). You can also use MAC address authentication to allow only authorized users onto the network.

Keep Tabs on Kids
This router is an especially good choice for parents as it allows settings to log all sites that are visited, lets you block specific sites based on whether it contains specific keywords, and lets you set time schedules for certain computers to work.

The NETGEAR WGR614 54 Mbps 802.11g Wireless Router is backed by a 1-year warranty.

Summary: Absolutely the best 54Mbps wireless router 2010-09-01
Comment: I have owned 2 Linksys wireless routers before this one. Both failed with same issue, intermittent internet connection loss. I have configured every router for all members of my family, my wife's family, extended family, neighbors, friends, etc. I have to say the easiest brand to configure is the NetGear. It has all the features the other brands have, but the web based configuration makes it better. There is also the fact that it works without failing.

I own other NetGear equipment and I have had no issues with the quality of any of the devices. This router looks great and it stacks right on top of my NetGear 1Gb 8 port switch. I have another computer in the basement also connected to another NetGear 1Gb 8 port switch with a NetGear NV+ NAS. All have great prices, look great, and work great.

Summary: Great Price and Easy To Install 2010-09-01
Comment: I had to unfortunately replace my old Linksys Modem Router that was 3 years old, because my lovely cat decided to knock it off a shelf one less time, that and we have humidity issues in the house too. After finding out that there are practically no modem-router combinations, I had to get the modem and router separately, I bought the Actiontec GT701D and of course the product we're talking about the Netgear WGR614. I find it to be a very good price and very easy to install. It took me literally 5 minutes to put the CD in and set up the router while I was hardwired. I find it's a lot easier to set up a modem or router when you're hardwired to a computer.

I love the speed. I have had no connectivity issues with the router or my dsl provider, which happens to be an independent provider. The only issues is a recurring issue with my security system and the phone line, which someday will be fixed, but I can't blame the router on my phone line issues. It's a good deal for the price for people that don't need a lot of speed and aren't covering that much of an area. I live in a small 8 room house and I have the equivalent of the lowest speed with AT&T.

Summary: Getting the Shaft!!! 2010-08-27
Comment: I received a item that wasn't in the condition to be used. I believe it's best if you buy goods that come from a respectable company. As my finance' says stop being cheap, and go to the store where you get a warranty. Shopping on these sights are not reliable you may get the Shaft!!!

Summary: Poor Customer Service 2010-08-26
Comment: I owned this unit for about 15 months and it worked fine. Last evening I opened my router log-in. The opening window does a search to see if new firmware is available. There was a update available. I downloaded the new firmware and tried to install it. The new firmware "bricked" my router and I couldn't get it fixed. I contacted their service group and they worked with me for 45 minutes to no avail. That isn't the problem. After trying everything they could think of the tech finally acknowledged that the unit was inoperable. Since it was too late in the day to reach customer service he gave me a case number and gave me the contact info to call during business hours to get a replacement. When I called to get said replacement Netgear disavowed any knowledge of the service call from the night before and could not locate my case number. I went through the whole scenario with the customer service tech and her boss to no avail. Even though it was their firmware update that trashed my unit they would not make good on it claiming it was out of warranty, which it was. I told them I wasn't calling for warranty service I wanted a replacement unit for the one their update made inoperable. They wouldn't budge. I finally left it that I would never buy another piece of equipment from Netgear and I would dissuade everyone I could from doing the same.
