We bought this router to replace a D-Link EBR-2310 that turned out to be the source of most of our connection problems.

I was half expecting to configure the TP-Link TL-R860, but none was required. I just connected it as instructed, and it "just worked". The router appears to be doing a very reliable job in handling traffic. In the event configuration is necessary however, the interface appears very user friendly and powerful.

Our broadband modem is a Motorola Surfboard Extreme. On part of the network we use a Mega plug AV powerline ethernet adapter, and haven't noticed any compatibility problems with that. In addition, we have a very old Netgear hub connected to that, which the PS3 and other devices are connected to. We have several different computers on our network. Some run XP, others run Windows 7, and Vista. We haven't noticed any sharing problems.

We get a ping of around 35-40ms with a speed of 35-40 Mbps download, and 5 Mbps upload, using...Read more

After having 3 separate Linksys BEFSR81 routers fail to install properly due to firmware defects, I got this TP model. It looks nice (I like boxy not amorphous) but it failed to install properly also (but due to improper setup on my part.) After calling the Free Tech Support, I got someone with with heavy Asian accent somewhat difficult to understand, that very gracefully tried to help but failed. I then found some Googled info about installing ADSL routers and reading between the lines realized the missing instruction needed about DHCP release on Modem but then NOT renewing until after recabling to the Router. Thereupon the TP Router installed properly and all has been well for months. The TP Browser Interface Screens were similar to but clearer and a few more options than the Linksys.

Setup for mixed OS home network quickly using manual browser "quick setup" option. No issues with setup, worked well right from boot up. Then began turning on security features. The fast WAN port 10/100 is an upgrade for us as well as the 8 LAN ports. Streaming media works well with it. Liked all the security options and parental control options, including the selecting the "use these DNS servers" suggest OpenDNS or similar for parental controls in a layered defense in keeping out bad internet stuff.
