This review is from: TRENDnet 4-Port Firewall Router TW100-BRF114 (Blue) (Personal Computers) This is a well-made and competitively priced 4 port firewall router. Cool
to the touch, boots in 30-45 seconds. Using Lynksis LNE100TX NIC cards in 2 computers, a CNET PRO200WL in a 3rd. All my NIC's are connected 100% at 100Mbps. Setup is done using your web browser http://192.168.0.1 and has many advanced features to configure your network. WARNING: Under Local Area connection Status-Properties, Local Area Connection-Properties, In- ternet Protocol (TCP/IP Properties), Advanced block, TCP/IP Filtering, DO NOT DO NOT turn on Filtering by checking the box under Options Tab. YOU will open up this router firewall to ALL traffic, defeating its purpose- to keep hackers OUT blocking them with the TW100-BRF114 hardware firewall. I used my Dell w/XP SP3 IE 7.0 as the 1st machine. It assigns IP address in sequential order to each device added. This review is from: TRENDnet 4-Port Firewall Router TW100-BRF114 (Blue) (Personal Computers) I have always configured and setup my own firewall using one version of Linux or another. Most recently it has been a Ubuntu server and it has been working like a champ. For an extra layer of security, I decided to place another firewall in front of my Ubuntu firewall and after hunting around selected this firewall. Received it quickly from Amazon. Setup was easy, even for opening the necessary ports that I wanted to enable into my network (they call it "setting up a server" but it's just their nomenclature for opening a port pass-through). My ISP didn't issue an IP address for the router, but that was easily fixed by telling the router to mimic the MAC address of my Ubuntu firewall and poof... everything was working. Since then I've been up 24x7 with 6 laptops, numerous...Read more 5 of 7 people found the following review helpful: Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) The main thing is you have to unplug the power to everything (computer, modem, router) before you start everything up. Once you plug all the Ethernet cables in, Then just go to the website listed in the quick installation guide and go through the prompts. Comes with a 5 year warranty. Is metal. I read two reviews on Cnet from people that had trouble, but they must not know some things that are pretty common knowledge if you've been working around computers much - 1. If you have a problem with a computer, turn everything off unplug everything's power, then plug it all back in and restart the computer (once you've had every wire connected right).
Next day network was dead, and I realized that I had to again turn everything off (and this time take the battery out of the modem - cuz otherwise it remembers sumthin' it's not supposed to - and then wait a little, put the battery back in). Then plug the power...Read more |
