This turned out to be a good thing as it was very confusing trying to sort out all the various types of routers available on Amazon with one reviewer saying one thing and then others with other opinions. I ended up going with the advice of the BB clerk and took home this mid range priced router. Set up was very simple with the enclosed CD and I had it up and running in a few minutes although I could have done it with the written instructions as well. The range of this router covers my entire two story townhouse and services two laptops, an Internet radio and a Samsung DVD player that we stream Netflix movies, Pandora and YouTube. So far everything works like it should with no problems streaming. The final step was re-entering the router password in our laptops, Internet radio and DVD player and we were good to go. I bought this router to upgrade my household wireless capabilities from the ice ages (an old Intel router). I followed the directions and one by one every device came up online without a hitch. I directly connected my desktop PC, then my wife's Vaio, the HP Printer upstairs, and the Cisco Network bridge (connected to the blueray player). All equipment has been online without a hitch for about one month. I then bought my first Blackberry Storm II and it connected immediately. The speeds on my wife's PC are astounding as is the connection to the Cisco bridge - which is what I use to download movies from Netflix. The picture on the TV is beautiful, and the downloads worked with any issues.
If you can follow the easy to use directions, I'm sure that you will be pleased with the results. I could not have found an easier to install device. 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Netgear WNR2000 Wireless N Router (Electronics) My in-laws have this router in their house. It doesn't give out DHCP addresses to anything Mac -- iPod, iPad etc. Even with my PC laptop I constantly have to reconnect. It's a piece of junk. I updated it to the latest firmware, looked online for solutions, but it really seems there's no way to make it work properly. I saw the exact same router in someone else's house, but it was working amazingly well! Everything connected and worked beautifully. What was the difference? The version. If your router says only WNR2000 on the back, you're out of luck -- it's the first version, and it will have serious issues. If it says WNR2000 ver 2 or ver 3 instead, you should be fine. Unfortunately, there's no way to know from looking at the box, so I don't recommend buying this router on Amazon. Go into Best Buy and demand to open the box, or just be ready to return it if it's the wrong version. I think this also explains why some people have really bad issues while other people have...Read more |
